Who are We: The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) enforces laws that make discrimination illegal in the workplace. The commission oversees all types of work situations including hiring, firing, promotions, harassment, training, wages, and benefits.

About the Program: The SVSP is designed to provide educationally-related work assignments to students who have expressed interest in civil rights and/or public service endeavors. The EEOC and the qualifying educational institution enter into a mutually beneficial agreement that enables students to gain first-hand knowledge and experience in Equal Employment Opportunity laws and case processing procedures.

What to Expect: Volunteers will be provided opportunities to become involved in a number of EEOC functions: the investigative process, mediations, the federal EEO hearings process, outreach, technical assistance, and litigation. The student volunteer will work under the supervision of a senior representative of the unit to which he or she is assigned. The student will be given specific duties to perform such as drafting charges of discrimination, developing investigatory plans, conducting witness interviews, conducting foreign language translations and researching issues.

Additionally, if you have experience in speaking, reading and writing a foreign language, such as, Spanish, Arabic, Korean, Chinese, Haitian Creole, Vietnamese, Russian, Hindi, etc.., we encourage you to apply.
